A survey conducted by Ovum, a U.K. market research firm reports that 42% of hospital CIOs who responded that they plan to increase their IT spending in 2011. Ovum polled 152 CIOs across North America, Europe and Australia about their upcoming IT strategies.
Financial incentives for health IT for health IT adoption exist in Canada, the U.K., and the U.S., with the Obama Administration offering providers up to $27 billion for installing electronic health records under the provisions of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act. Cost-cutting costs and improving efficiency are also gaining attention, with the study author, Ovum Senior Analyst Cornelia Wels-Maug, notice “Our research shows that telehealth and mobile health are receiving more attention than in previous years, a trend that will accelerate with consumers’ urge to purchase tablet PCs and smartphones.”
