4th U.S. Circuit Court Reverses anti-ACA Ruling

Two hours after the D.C. Circuit Court in Washington ruled that the IRS did not have the right to rewrite the wording of the Affordable Care Act to mean all states would be eligible for tax credits, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court ruled that Congress did intend to make those  subsidies available as much as possible in order to make insurance more affordable.

ACA Cannot Subsidize Insurance Premiums – Appeals Court Ruling

A federal appeals court has ruled the Obama administration cannot subsidize insurance premiums for 7 million Americans, dealing a blow to the Affordable Care Act. The ruling may be a prelude to an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Two judges with the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that the text of the reform law clearly forbids income-tax subsidies to go to low- and middle-income Americans who use one of the 34 federally run insurance exchanges. The subsidies have been flowing since Jan. 2014, based on a 2012 interpretation of the law by the IRS.

Which foreign countries are buying real estate in the U.S.

Canada maintained the largest share of purchases, dropping from 23% in 2013 to 19% in 2014; however, China held the lead in dollar volume, purchasing an estimated $22 billion with an average sale cost of $590,826.

China was also the fastest growing source of transactions, now accounting for 16% of all purchases, up 4% from last year. Mexico ranked third with 9% of sales and India and the U.K. both accounted for 5%.

Is Housing Inventory Really So Low? – Ask Zillow

Although inventory appears to be sparse, Zillow reports that nationwide sales jumped in May 11.8% year-over-year and were up 4.3% from April. Los Angeles sales increased 12.7% from the prior year.

The perception paradox is that most of the inventory gains were in the middle and top one-third of home values; first-time buyers looking in lower-priced areas are still shut out.
